Now & Then: Congress Exhibitor Recognizes Photo Displayed In 50th Anniversary Display

Gary McCoy’s Congress experiences have spanned over a half-century. Over the years, he has competed in the Barrels and Poles competition. As he was walking over to the Entry Office today, to retrieve his entries for this year’s Barrels and Poles Sweepstakes and Select Amateur Barrels and Poles, something caught his eye. Adjacent to the Entry Office is the 50th Anniversary Display area that encompasses the All American Quarter Horse Congress Hall of Fame and the memorabilia area with 50 years of NYATT (National Youth Activity Team Tournament) buckles, pens, photos and more. In the middle of the “photo wall”, is a distinct photo featuring a pole bender. When McCoy saw the photo, he identified the horse and rider team.
Of course, the pair features McCoy when he won in the Amateur and Open Pole Bending in the 1970s. He was excited to see that the Congress chose his picture to represent his disciplines and opened up to tell stories of years past. Good luck to everyone competing in the remainder of the Congress and we hope that everyone visits the 50th Anniversary booth during their stay!
