Longtime Congress Announcer Steve Johnson Passes

It is with great sorrow that we share of the passing of longtime Congress announcer, Steve Johnson. The following was provided by Steve's family:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Stephen B. Johnson on June 11th, 2024 of Williamsport, Ohio. He was born March 5th, 1955 to Francis Alfred Johnson and Sylvia Baird Johnson. After graduating Westfall High School in 1973 he attended the Ohio State University where he graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences. He was a member of the Livestock Judging Team, the Alpha Zeta Fraternity and the Saddle & Sirloin Club.

Words will never describe how much we will miss him. He lit up every room with his smile and put others at ease with his gentle demeanor. He was an entrepreneur at heart and lead by example with his unwavering work ethic. His three daughters, Greta, Sarah and Emma were the light of his life.

From a very young age he enjoyed showing Quarter Horses and Limousin cattle, serving as a WRFD farm radio host, judging Quarter Horse shows, mentoring junior and youth members in 4-H, raising his daughters in 4-H and FFA, traveling across the country to show Limousin cattle with his daughters, mountain biking, riding his cutting horse and being known as the “Voice of the Congress,” as one of the All American Quarter Horse Congress announcers.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Francis Alfred Johnson and his mother, Sylvia Baird Johnson. He is survived by his oldest daughter, Greta Bowman (husband Eric and daughter Faith), his daughter Sarah Anne Johnson (fiancé Coulton West) and his youngest daughter, Emma Lynne Johnson. He is also survived by his fiancé, Elizabeth Holden.

Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We appreciate your kindness, love and support during this difficult time.

A time of fellowship to honor his life will be held at the Circleville Presbyterian Church in Circleville, Ohio on Friday June 21st, 2024 from 5:30pm-8pm. A joint celebration of life service for Steve and his mother Sylvia, will be held Saturday June 22nd, 2024 at 11am at the Circleville Presbyterian Church in Circleville, Ohio. We welcome you to arrive an hour prior to the service to visit with family if you would like. Thank you to everyone who was a friend, mentor or colleague to Steve. We are forever grateful for the impact you made in his life.

We also ask that if you would like to share your favorite memories and photos of Steve, to do so through this Google Form link:
