Quarter Horse Congress Mourns the Loss of John Ackerman

We are deeply sadden by the loss of long time "Gate Guru" for the All American Quarter Horse Congress.

July 17, 1941 ~ April 19, 2019

John Martin Ackerman, 77, of McHenry, MD, died Friday, April 19, 2019, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland, MD.

 Born July 17, 1941, in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late David D. & Florence (Knapp) Ackerman.  He was preceded in death by one brother, David Ackerman.

 John retired from Coca-Cola Company as a Route Supervisor and also was a welder's helper for Local 798 Pipe Liners.  He was an avid horseman and was known as the “Gate Guru” at Quarter Horse Shows. John was a proud US Air Force veteran and a proud member of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Company #30, where he served as Safety Officer for many years. He was well liked by many friends and never met a stranger.

 Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Brenda May (Brelsford) Ackerman; one daughter, Carla Cole & husband, Drew, Rye, NH; one granddaughter, Caden Cole & one grandson, Parker Cole; one sister-in-law, Susan Ackerman, Binghamton, NY, niece and nephew, Jill & David; brother-in-law, Doug Brelsford, Wiley Ford, WV; sister-in-law, Janet Weaver, Short Gap, WV; nephews, Mike Weaver, Jacksonville, FL, Robert & Amy Weaver and Brian & Crystal Weaver, all of Ridgeley, WV, Eric & Natasha Weaver, LaVale, MD.

 Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, MD, Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 5-8 pm.  Deep Creek Vol. Fire Department, Company #30 will hold a Memorial Service following at 8:00 pm.

 Expressions of sympathy may me directed to Wounded Warriors or Deep Creek Vol. Fire Department.
